My project aims to portray media censorship in South Korea during the 1980s. While life seemed to be quite normal on the surface, there was in fact a violent uprising occurring, of which most of the country was unaware. I wanted to design a publication that both references this event whilst graphically suggesting a sense of nostalgia. The publication is in two parts: a nostalgic depiction of an innocent Korean pop culture from the period, and an emergent and dramatic documentary portrayal of the Gwangju uprising.
